What I do is drop a bit of watercolor on a palette or bit of plastic and dip one corner of the nib into the ink (using a Pilot parallel pen). Start with a lighter color, like yellow, and you can get a good variation of color in your nib. I think in this case I used two drops of watercolor, like blue and red.

What was the medium, Dave? It looks like the cartridges that come with the pens but that would mean a lot of open cartridges. Thanks.
